STORMWATER/WATER QUALITY

Green-Duwamish Water Quality Assessment Monitoring, King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, (2001-2003)

Taylor Associates, Inc. provided water quality sampling services to support implementation of the Green-Duwamish watershed water quality assessment being conducted by King County Department of Natural Resources. The project entailed collecting water samples (at 15 sites on the Green River and tributary streams distributed throughout a 261 square mile area) using autosamplers and manual techniques during storm flow and baseflow conditions. Field staff used ultra-clean methods to collect and process samples for low-level metals analysis. Field staff deployed portable field meters to measure water quality parameters in real-time. The duration for each event ranged from 30 to 40 hours requiring multiple site visits to retrieve samples from the autosamplers to meet holding times. Substantial logistical coordination was required to collect all targeted samples at each station. Staff collected 1,010 grab samples manually and 820 samples using autosamplers. As a separate project, Taylor Associates, Inc. also completed an examination of temperature data for the Green-Duwamish watershed, analyzing surface water temperature for 96 monitoring stations in the Green- Duwamish Watershed. Project responsibilities included reviewing state temperature criteria, coordinating team members, facilitating the development of report figures, analyzing temperature data, and writing the final report.
